Writer's block is actually caused by word blockers which are like cock blockers, only less evil. The are total douches that keep stopping you from putting the moves on sexy words and scoring with them.

Also writers block is caused by an imbalance of midachlorians, my young apprentice.

approach it like you approach the actual world... there are all these things in the world.. countries.. themes.. emotions, and so on. what mix of things makes the world interesting? to me, the funniest story is still the one about the pigs and the hippies, this i will never forget. what does this mean in terms of your writing, i don't know, but if i had my pick of the board, with all the pieces ready to go, i wouldn't do something subtle, i'd do something unforgettable, however seemingly unrealistic. as a writer, you can be your own editor, but im fairly sure that in the end you only really get one shot.

ack, semicolons are ugly. i don't really believe number 1, i think with most things in life, the more you practice, the better you become. not being 'ready' subscribes to the romantic notion that writers wait for a moment and can just pick up a pen and are great. every good piece of writing is a product of thousands of bad pieces, and would not have happened without them, just like every good guitar solo is a product of hundreds of hours of poor playing.

you write a lot, and as far as i know, you also finish things that you start. no matter how rough things are now, at least you're still writing, that's not wasted or futile energy, those small snippets in your brain will make good practice even if they never become a story. i believe it could definitely be the making of the skills to produce something great in the future.
